About ‘A Day Of Rainbows’

‘A Day Of Rainbows’ is a semi-autobiographical album in a range of musical styles.

Simon comments: “A Day of Rainbows loosely describes a very up and down, very emotional year, but on a wider level it’s about the up- and down-ness of life.”

Working with over twenty singers and instrumentalists, arrangements include short instrumental pieces and longer, developed songs, mixing together contrasting instruments and sounds that include shruti, uillean pipes and Chinese flute, treated vocals, samples and effects, and traditional strings and rock, folk and jazz instruments.

“The songs are lyrics-driven. All but one was written on acoustic guitar, which to me makes them feel intimate and personal, even though the final arrangements are mostly more complex.”
